对医疗设备应用来说,避免MLCC的灾难性失效和漂移失效是头等注意事项。归根结底,MLCC的可靠性预测是建立在供应商测试数据和医疗设备制造商规定的、在定义时间范围内的应用工作温度的基础上的。MLCC供应商的工艺控制是实现高可靠性的一项重要因素。通过在额定或更高电压下抬高温度,进行规定时长的寿命测试,可以确定MLCC的可靠性,并保证MLCC可以用于重要医疗设备应用。MLCC测试是基于客户要求和美国军用标准(MIL)规范(若适用)进行的。

近些年来,医疗设备一直朝着体积越来越小的趋势发展,小型可植入设备在植入过程中能够让患者感觉更舒适,对身体的扰乱也更小。相对于商用电子,医疗电子的MLCC要求在更小的尺寸内实现更高的可靠性和性能水平。

每种MLCC技术都有自身独特的属性,在针对最终应用进行产品选型时应将这些属性视为具体参考标准的一部分。从目前村田公布的GCH系列尺寸可以看出,最小尺寸是0402,但不能用于医疗植入设备,只能用于体外医疗设备。用于医疗的可植入设备,MLCC的尺寸为最好是0201(0.024in×0.012in)以下,为无线电/遥测系统提供去耦或调谐功能,借助于小型医疗设备可使手术更简单并降低其侵入性,从而方便医生操作并减轻患者痛苦,期待村田的技术团队可以推出0201尺寸或更加小尺寸的医疗应用的MLCC.
